Animal Trustees of Austin is a 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt, non-profit animal welfare organization that
serves the animals of our community by providing affordable, humane treatment, with compassion and respect for all.
We are committed to ending overpopulation by making spay/neuter surgery for dogs and cats affordable and accessible to the general public, and wellness care an option for all pet owners regardless of income.
Animal Trustees of Austin (ATA) was founded in 1993 by ten members of the Austin community who were determined to make a lasting difference for the animals of Central Texas. Initially, the purpose of the organization was to provide rescue and re-homing services for abused and stray animals and dogs and cats surrendered at local animal shelters. However, board members quickly realized that in order to prevent the tragedy of homeless pets and be a part of the bigger picture, they needed to tackle the problem of pet overpopulation head on. In response, the Animal Trustees low-cost, high-quality Spay/Neuter Clinic opened in 1997. Shortly thereafter, the Animal Trustees Wellness Clinic was added for pet owners who wanted to keep their animals healthy but could not afford the fees charged by traditional veterinarians.
Today, Animal Trustees of Austin operates two full-time veterinary clinics offering spay/neuter surgeries, heartworm prevention and treatment, parasite control, dental health care and life saving special surgeries.
Animal Trustees of Austin is proud to be a part of the ASPCA's Austin Partners program, a focused effort to create a country of humane communities where animals receive the compassion and respect due to them. The ASPCA targets communities nationwide by including and cooperating with area animal-welfare agencies and organizations. ATA is proud to be a partner organization in Central Texas along with Town Lake Animal Shelter, the Austin Humane Society, and EmanciPET.
